Vasilis and Venetia, both lovers of nature, will take you on a spellbinding tour of this area, featuring one of the most important wetlands in Europe, according to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, Europe's Natura 2000 policy. Jump on the 'Agios Sostis' boat for a ride that will immerse you in great Mediterranean nature and unveil the marine life, particularly the dolphins in the Amvrakikos or Ambracian Gulf. The boat itself is a traditional wooden 'trehandiri' as it is known in Greek and comfortably fits 25 people, equipped with all the safety and navigational equipment necessary. Beyond the highly recommended Dolphin Tour you can go on a sunset cruise or visit nearby islands such as Lefkas (Lefkada), and the satellite islands of Scorpios and Meganisi.

Watersports, history and archeology in one

For eco watersports lovers, let Vasilis and Venetia organize a private cruise that can be combined with snorkeling or kite surfing. Other attractions that could be part of a refreshing, nature-filled waterborne tour include the Byzantine Monastery of Koronisia and the medieval castle of Vonitsa.

For intriguing visits by land, head to the area's rich archeological sites such as the Nekromanteion (Oracle of the Dead) and the ancient Mycenaean acropolis of Efyra. If you like ancient cities, arrange a visit to the Roman city of Nikopolis and its modern Archaeological Museum, as well as the ancient city of Kassope. There is also the Roman aqueduct in the valley of Kokkonopelos that is worth seeing, so is the open air Sarakatsani Sheepfold museum that reflects the life of the old Sarakatsani tribe in the region.

Incredible variety of natural attractions

From a more ecotourism and nature perspective, a 'priari' or special boat to navigate shallower waters can take you to the forest of Lekatsa, Ziros Lake, the lagoons of the Amvrakikos wetlands National Park, the waterfalls of Vonitsa, and the springs and estuaries of the Acheron River. In short, Eco Cruising is your ticket to a fantastic fun-filled journey while educating and raising awareness on the biodiversity and delicate habitat of this beautiful, unspoilt region. Cruises take place all year round except February and March. Wetlands excursions take place all year, with the best period for birdwatching being the winter months.
