You're going to fall in love with this village on a hill which overlooks the sea, but also with the cozy rooms and café of the Oreiades Guesthouse. While the guesthouse was built very recently and is refreshingly new, it has maintained the classical Macedonian architecture with a red roof, several stone-laden walls and even fireplaces in some of the rooms.

Once you enter your room, you'll be impressed by the four-poster beds, wooden furniture, and new yet retro bath fixtures, all in harmony with modern conveniences such as wi-fi internet, flat screen TV, air conditioning and bathrobes. Best of all, there's a complimentary bottle of Macedonian wine waiting for you, as well as a bottle of local tsipouro spirit (produced by Katerina herself) right in the room.

On the topic of fine gastronomy, get ready for a hearty Macedonian breakfast with homemade jams, fresh eggs from the family coop, and traditional pies (spinach, cheese and custard), as well as herbal mountain tea, fresh fruit, yoghurt and delicious omelets. For lunch or dinner, you can walk up to the fine panoramic restaurant above the village and finish with a coffee or tea with cake at the Oreiades.

Worth noting, the property is open all year round and for good reason: Parthenonas is a great place to enjoy life during all four seasons. The area is perfect for hiking, biking, mountain climbing, and simply enjoying the nature. There are hiking paths above the village that will take you to wondrous landscapes in full view of the sea below. Not far off there are options for tennis and diving as well, keeping in mind that Halkidiki's lovely coast is only a few minutes away by car.

In the village itself there is a folklore museum that you can visit where the old stone-built village school was, as well as the historic church of Agios Stefanos built in 1837. Just walking around and admiring the gardens and valleys around Parthenonas is an experience. Also noteworthy are some local wineries and olive presses which you could visit in the greater area.

This is a lovely little family property with only six rooms and can host up to 15 people in total. In summer, the place is perfect to get away from the mass tourism of Halkidiki and enjoy some of the more authentic life here. Keep in mind that the best times to enjoy the nature and go on hikes are autumn and spring. We loved this place and so will you!
